How it works

Days and weeks are added on the calendar, so weekends count. Months and years land on the same day number, moved back to the month's last day when that day does not exist (Jan 31 plus one month is Feb 28, or Feb 29 in a leap year). Methodology

Questions people ask

How do I find a date that was some days ago?
Set Direction to Before and enter the number of days. The calculator walks back on the calendar, including weekends. For example, 30 days before Thu, Nov 26, 2026 is Tue, Oct 27, 2026.
What is 1 year from today?
Enter 1 and choose Years. The result has the same month and day next year, with its new weekday. The one exception is February 29: one year after a leap day lands on February 28.
Why is adding 1 month to January 31 not March 3?
Because February has no 31st, the result stops at the last day of February. Some software rolls the extra days into March instead. We use the end-of-month rule, which matches how most people read 'one month later'.
Does the calculator use my time zone?
Yes. 'Today' is today on your device. On the server-built version of each page, today is set at midnight in New York, so the text may lag by a few hours in the Pacific or Hawaii time zones until the live counter loads.
