How it works
A business day is Monday to Friday, minus federal holidays on their observed dates from OPM. When a holiday falls on a Saturday it is removed from the Friday before; on a Sunday, from the Monday after. Methodology
Questions people ask
- What counts as a business day?
- Here, a business day is any Monday to Friday that is not a federal holiday on OPM's list. Your contract or court may define it differently, for example by adding state holidays. Untick the holiday box for a plain weekday count, then subtract any extra closures yourself.
- How many business days until Christmas?
- Put today as the start and Fri, Dec 25, 2026 as the end. The calculator skips weekends plus Veterans Day and Thanksgiving if they are still ahead. Black Friday is not a federal holiday, so it stays in the count.
- What day is 10 business days from today?
- Choose 'Add business days' and enter 10. With no holiday in the way, 10 business days from a Monday is the Monday two weeks later, 14 calendar days. Each federal holiday inside the range pushes the result one more business day.
- How long is 3 business days?
- Three business days from a Wednesday end on the following Monday, because Saturday and Sunday are skipped. From a Monday they end on Thursday. The calculator does not count the start date and does count the end date.
