How it works
The day count does not include the start date, so Monday to Tuesday is 1 day. Business days skip Saturdays, Sundays and the federal holidays OPM lists for the years in your range. Methodology
Questions people ask
- Does the days between count include both dates?
- No. We count the days you cross, which leaves out the start date. Jan 1 to Jan 2 is 1 day. If you need both ends counted, tick 'Count the last day too' and the result goes up by one.
- How many days since a date?
- Put the past date in the first field and today in the second. The result is the number of days since. Thanksgiving 2025 was Thu, Nov 27, 2025, so that is one date people often enter.
- How are months and days counted?
- We step forward one calendar month at a time until the next step would pass the end date, then count the remaining days. Jan 31 to Mar 1, 2027 is 1 month and 1 day, since one month after Jan 31 is Feb 28.
- Why is the business-day count lower than weekdays?
- Weekdays include federal holidays; business days do not. A range that crosses Thanksgiving or Christmas loses one business day for each. The list under the result names every holiday that was removed.
